  1. Tom, what I like about your podcast as opposed to all the other ones that are out there, is that you’re actually attempting to build a layout, and are describing how your doing it. That’s a completely different spin on all the other podcasts that are out there. Unfortunately, you seem to have the “shiny object” syndrome. Don’t start building an around the wall On3 lay out like you talked about here. Just finish the Owensville terminal railroad. I’m interested in more details on the operations setup method you talked about. Can you post further info on the form that you use to establish the switchlist you would use for operations? I’d be interested in seeing a picture of or an explanation of how it’s used and created thanks.Jeff

  2. Tom- What I like about your podcast, is that you're actually talk about actually building an "every man's" layout. Not some over-the-top basement empire. And you detail out every step of the way. That's what gives it a completely different spin from the other podcasts.
But you seem to be afflicted with the "another shiny object" syndrome. And seem to start one layout and never finish it before starting something else. So when I heard you talking about an around the room layout in On3, I got worried (along with Jim Lincoln's derailing you on hand-laid track). I was really looking forward to you describing how you would complete the 2nd incarnation of the Owensville Terminal layout. So keep that one up and once complete it!
Would also be interested in hearing more detail about this paperwork you use to set up your switch lists that you talked about briefly. Maybe you could describe it in more detail or on your YouTube channel?

    1. Thanks for commenting! I am planning to continue the current version of the Owensville Terminal Railroad, and I will be talking about its progress in the next episode of the podcast. I created the "Thinking Out Loud" segment to help keep me from making some of those knee-jerk decisions I have made in the past. I also enjoy thinking about other layout possibilities and that's part of the "fun" of the hobby for me. The process of building layouts has shown me several design flaws that eventually led to the abandonment of several layout attempts. Valuable lessons were learned through those attempts. My Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout was one of my layout projects that was completed and is still being used as of this date. I also agree with you about the "every man's" layout comment. I think basement empires are impressive, but I will never be interested in creating one of them. Still a fan of the 4x8 too! I am planning to post more information about operations, including paperwork, in the future. I'm still testing out a few options. Thanks again for taking the time to write. Much appreciated!

      Tom
